International Field School in Rebun Island
We will hold the International Field School on Rebun Island from the end of July to August. Specialists in various fields gather for this Field School and you would learn the newest investigative technique, the notes of research analysis, etc. This event would give a chance to debate discovery of a new subject or selection of a research theme through exchange of the students participating from Canada, UK and Japan.
All the participants aim to discuss on how we utilize a historical cultural heritage as resources of a community.
And also the result of the survey on the island is expected to impact on solving the formation process of the Ainu culture which is the indigenous-people culture of north Japan including the Hokkaido Island. This project encourages participation of the Ainu people in the enforcement process of surveillance study and sharing of the investigation result. Discussion on the international subject about preservation and practical use of an indigenous-people’s historical cultural heritage with the global point of view is one of the principal pillars for this project.

In Summer 2017, Centre for Ainu & Indigenous Studies, Hokkaido University, will be planning a Archaeological Field School on Rebun Island.
This excavation in Rebun Island will be hosted by Hokkaido University in conjunction with the Core to Core Program supported by JSPS.
Hokkaido University will recruit undergraduate students and Graduate students from all over the world. Hokkaido University will also recruit volunteers to participate in this field school.
